The Problem Nobody Talks About

A sheet with 74% utilization and twelve unusable slivers of scrap is worth less to your shop than a sheet with 72% utilization and one large reusable remnant. But every existing nesting tool treats these as equally good — or prefers the higher number.

The truth is: scrap geometry matters. A 600×400mm offcut can become next week's small job. Twelve 30mm slivers go in the recycling bin. Standard nesting tools don't know the difference.

How Offcut Preservation Works

NestClass's engine includes a Residual Space Shaping system that evaluates every placement based on the quality of remaining free space — not just how tightly parts pack.

• Large remnant reward: Placements that leave behind large, coherent free-space regions are scored higher
• Fragmentation penalty: Placements that shatter remaining space into many small unusable pieces are penalized
• Smoothness bonus: Rectangular or near-rectangular remnants score higher than irregular ones (they're easier to reuse)

Two Modes, One Engine

Toggle between optimization strategies based on what your job needs:

• Maximize Utilization: Standard mode. Pack as tight as possible. Best for high-volume production where every square inch counts.
• Preserve Remnants: Offcut mode. Intentionally shape the remaining space into reusable offcuts. Best for job shops that reuse scrap for future work.
